A Roof Vent Removes Heat From 'The Oven'. Insultec Turns The Oven Off In The First Place.

The above analogy is fairly apt. Installing a roof vent system while still allowing heat to pour into the cavity is a self-defeating exercise. While roof ventilation unquestionably has value, Insultec heat reflective membrane effectively stops heat from passing through the roof in the first place, making it a more economical, viable solution to our scorching summer heat.

The harsher and hotter the environment the more a roof ventilator struggles to extract the heat. On the other hand, Insultec’s performance has been proven to increase, even excel, under extreme conditions due to its dramatically lower solar heat absorption rate and unequalled re-radiating properties. The infinitesimal amount of heat that does escape through the membrane into the roof cavity or internal building area is then easily handled by roof ventilation.

The Proof Is In The Thermometer

Consider these documented examples:

Mobile Refining Australia Pty Ltd reported comparing internal temperatures under an untreated area of a building with an area treated by Insultec on a day recording 32°C. Employees were staggered by the result –

  • The internal temperature under the untreated area reached 51°C
  • Under the Insultec treated area temperatures reached only 33°C

A rise of only 1°C whereas the untreated area had recorded a 19°C rise in temperature.

N.J. van Rensburg, a firm of consulting engineers based in Durbanville, South Africa, compared similar sized surface areas of untreated galvanised roofing, a surface area painted with white paint and a surface area treated by Insultec. The result -

  • The galvanised roof reached 53°C,
  • Roofing painted white reached 42°C
  • With the Insultec treated roof internal temperatures reached only 37°C

To expect a roof vent system to cope with the soaring temperatures and humidity industrial and commercial metal roofs experience in Australia is probably expecting too much. Turn the oven off first with Insultec roof coating and then your roof ventilation will be able to perform a brilliant job in removing any heat remnants that sneak in through windows and doors or under eaves.
